Arabic School

Placement Exams (8-week):

Online placement exam and oral interview information has been sent out, the dates for completion are June 1 – June 8, Please check your email for instructions.

If you are a Level 1 (complete beginner), you do not need to take the exam.

General Information: First week schedule of events (convocation, orientation, instructor meet and greets…etc.) will be provided within the week prior to arrival.

During a typical week, Arabic School students can expect to be in class from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm Monday thru Friday. While not in class you will participate in cocurricular activities and on-campus events. You may view our tentative list of 2022 co-curricular activities, here. With the exception of a few special weekend events, students will be free to relax, socialize, study or run errands on Saturdays and Sundays. Please make note that leaving campus will be dependent on campus status and COVID restrictions.

Please plan on attending at least two semi-formal events. If you have traditional clothing or musical instruments, please feel free to bring them.

The Arabic School 8-week program will end on August 19 at 2pm and students will need to vacate dorms by 10:30am on Saturday, August 20.

ARRIVAL INFORMATION

Dormitories open the morning of the day of arrival as indicated below. Because dormitories are occupied by other groups shortly before the opening of the summer session, early arrivals are not possible, nor are we able to accept luggage sent in advance for storage.

Intensive Immersion 8-week session – June 24

Graduate 6-week session – July 8

We will run an Arrival Center for 8-week students from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, June 24.

Graduate students will check in with Public Safety. Details will be sent separately.

Late Arrivals, early departures or missing classes for weddings, family reunions, job-related obligations, etc., constitute unexcused absences unless you have received permission in advance from our Director, Dr. Brahim Chakrani, as explained in the Language Schools Language Schools Handbook.

You will be notified by email when your request has been reviewed or approved. This may take up to two weeks. Please contact arabicschool@middlebury.edu if you do not receive a response within two weeks.
